No green juice here! These are simple tips you can incorporate into your routine this week.

1. Hydrate! 💦 . . . blah, blah, same old song and dance but it’s SO important! Try it this week - when you get up in the morning (before eating!), drink a large glass of warm water with fresh lemon. 🍋

Did you know? This combo helps cleanse your organs and gets the digestive system moving. Hydration is 🗝️ for moving toxins out of your body. To make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day, make it fun! Add berries, cucumbers or try coconut water (just be mindful of brands with added sugar).

And invest in a stainless steel or glass water bottle that makes you excited to refill throughout the day! I’m a sucker for a new water bottle. ;-)

2. Add in Detoxifying Foods: Did you know? Certain foods can actually aid in your body’s own detoxification process! Pick one and give it a try this week:

  • Bone Broth - high in amino acids like glycine which supports liver detox

  • Power Greens like baby kale, spinach, watercress, arugula and beet greens - try chopping small and sautéing in olive oil to make these more palatable

  • Avocado - one of my favs - it’s so easy to add to salads and dishes for some healthy fat and micronutrients. We buy the @eatwholly Wholly Avocado minis - great for portion control and less waste.

  • Pineapple - research shows that for maximum benefit, it is best to consume it in the morning on an empty stomach.

3. Foods to Avoid & Reduce: Toxins wreak havoc on our organs and when they build up in the body we can experience brain fog, low energy, skin rashes, bloating and mood imbalances. Any of those symptoms sound familiar? To figure out where the toxins are coming from and choose foods that heal the body, Reduce or Avoid Foods that are:

  • Processed - the plastic and metal containers that house processed foods can leach chemicals into the food

  • Overcooked - you can actually make a healthy food unhealthy by cooking at high heat. Instead, try steaming and low heat methods of cooking with a focus on cooking for vibrancy rather than depletion.

  • Filled with Pesticides - when economically possible, purchase organically grown fruits and vegetables. Pesticides can actually disrupt hormones.

Worth a try: Commit to an elimination diet for 3-4 weeks. This allows you to truly figure out what foods you might have an intolerance to. The science behind it - when your immune system reacts to a food, it creates inflammation in the body (arrow) when you are inflamed, you compromise your body’s ability to function and ward off toxins.

4. Detox Your Grocery List: Before heading to the grocery store this weekend, make a list to stock up on foods that aid in the detoxification process. Plan to try something new or find a recipe that incorporates some of these foods:

  • Broccoli

  • Apples - leave the skin on!

  • Brazil nuts - all you need is 2 a day

  • Eggs - look for organic-pasteurized when possible

  • Yogurt with live active cultures - my go-to on weekdays mornings is plain @siggisdairy with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey. Calvin has been loving the @chobani drinkable daily probiotics strawberry yogurt.
